From 1980 to 1982 I worked as a computer programmer in the departments of cardiology at Stanford University and at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
I went through the general surgical residency program at Wayne State University (WSU, Detroit, MI) from 1982 to 1987. In 1987 I was accepted into the cardiothoracic program at WSU which I completed in 1990. I went back to Germany in 1990 and held a position as a staff cardiac surgeon in a city run heart center until 1994, and from 1994 to 1/1999 at Essen University Medical Center. Research and teaching were important aspects of my jobs.
After receiving my private pilot's license in 1981 I am now a commercial pilot/SEL/ instrument/airplane and flight instructor/glider (CFIG).
I used to work as a part-time translator for many year while spending most of my time in the hospital. Since March 1, 1999 I am running "fhs consulting" full time, offering editorial assistance, technical and medical translation, and consulting. My experience in medicine, aviation, electronics, and data processing enables me to cover those areas in my business.
